If anyone recognises a picture similar to this... that's because I have copied the idea.
I was in an unimaginative mood and my mind flashed back to a wallpaper I had seen at one point of the same idea with the cards. I lay no claim to the idea at all as I realise it has already previously been done.
That being said, I was rather proud with how my version came out. Day late V-day sort of photo! (Or forever-alone day/singles awareness day or whatever floats your boat with the name.)
Photo taken with Olympus E420 and sent through photoshop (as is probably a little obvious :P )
PS: CRAP. Now it's f*cking massive... Why must FA suck at uploading things D: CBA to upload a resized version so enjoy your rediculously sized wallpaper xD)

Half the time I never bother with resizing them... I just end up savng them full size and keeping them that way rather than making another file which is a bit more of a ensible size, haha.
Seems to only happen occasionally with my uploads though, so for the most part the resize system does its job.... might resize this one when I get back xD

Having just done a google image search it appears it's ben done a few times before as well! Haha, douing a google image search for "playing cards love" shows up a few :P
I didn't have to use a macro lens at all with this, just the standard one that came with the camera!
FA does have a resize system when you upload... but if you choose "change submission file" underneath one of your uploads, whatever the size of the picture it won't resize! Hence this one is basically as big as it came out of the camera! Lol It's done it for a loooong time now :P
Thanks for the compliments on it though! :D

Yeah I have tried to do a bunch of what I like to call "macro-esque" shots with the kit lens, but it just never looks right without a reproduction ratio smaller than 1:1 lifesize...it just looks like a super cropped wide angle shot or something instead of the interesting capture I want (and the focal distance on my telephoto is a joke lol). There's also magnification filter attachments you could use but they look kinda cruddy...though instead of buying an actual macro lens I might aswell just put the money towards a used full frame FX camera and selling my current. /rambling
I didn't know you could get around FA's limits with a re-uploaded source file haha, though I always just resize mine in CS5 since gawd knows what FA's compression probably does to them to get the filesize down
I need to do a photograph of fire for my class next week so I'll let you know how that goes though, I'm gonna put the kit lens through it's paces and hopefully not melt a UV filter in the process

I guess I'm rather lucky with the lens I have then! ... You could go to the other extreme, take the lens off the camera, flip it back to front and hold it against the camera body for a rather powerful macro lens :P But that does tend to end up as a VERY strong macro effect xD
I only found out about the FA upload glitch thing because a while back one of my photos did the classic "image not found" after I'd uploaded... so I changed submission file and boom. It was huge xD
As for FA's compression... go knows what it does to them... but 9 times out of 10 I upload the full size image and let FA compress it however it wants anyway.... The other 1/10 is a photo that ends up with a jpg size over 10mb xD
I'll definitely wnat to see some results of this fire photography! It's something I fel I can never get quite the right feel from myself! So I'll definitely be interested to see what you can get!....Don't worry too much about the filter either...worry about the rather more expensive LENS about 2mm behind said filter! Haha.

erf meant larger than 1:1 life size* Yeah that's one other problem with Nikon, if you don't have a lens attached then you just get a message saying "no lens attached" on the lcd...even when I tried using a cheap $7 mount extension tube so I could focus way closer...Nikon does have some weird "features". I'm also hoping the next firmware update fixes a huge bug when shooting videos in liveview mode that they don't seem to care about since they're so still-photo oriented. Althoughhh I guess I could try putting one lens in front of the other backwards. (One funny thing about point-and-shoot cameras is that by design they're better for macro photography because their sensors and lenses are so tiny, with some being able to focus under 1 inch.)
Yup those UV or clear filters definitely come in handy! I want to get a bunch of extras since I'm always doing all sorts of irresponsible stuff with my camera. I just know taking such a low-light photo is gonna be a challenge for a moving flame, but I'm now playing around with an f/1.8 prime :3
