My pic for Darkboss' '07 Mech-Off Entry' (see : http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/181975/ )
I'm quite happy to see I didn't loose my ability to draw such a thing. I was inspired by a superb pic I saw long ago, by Karabiner or another artist of that level. His version was very "Sorayama-esque" BTW, with relatively few mechanical parts showing if I recall properly, while I wanted to draw a maximum of them. And yes, there is a little Zoïd inspiration also, though only in a very few details, and a Terminator inspiration, in the lower jaw and toes XD .

Well, that's not really complicated after all (of course, it's never complicated for the artist or almost), but it's a question of training - as always. What I can tell you, is that I have TONS of artbooks about japanese mecha at home, and my taste for mechs of course helps alot. I've studied mecha since almost three decades, but only japanese really got it as for the mechanical details : in my pics you can really feel the inspiration I got from Kawamori (Macross), Izubuchi (Patlabor), Aramaki and Yamane (Bubble Gum Crisis), Shirow (GITS), Katoki (Gundam)... The most difficult is in fact drawing the right detail at the right place, and for me, this is a question of feeling. And thus, it sometimes fail...

Strangely, Shirow didn't inspire me directly there, though as I love his works, he is always there in my "databank" when I draw mechs. But that is Kawamori's case, indeed, Macross having been one of my biggest shock ever.
Anyway, though I love Tezuka's stories, he never inspires me for my mechs.

Merci Loupy !! ^^

Yeah.. I should train it a little more... but there are other things to do first... I'am just sitting in front of Photoshop and putting pictures together, for an scientific publication... and it is deadly boring!!! But I think I can manage cool thinks in short time...
But I don't have any mecha-books in that manner...

Oh my, that's a complex question !! Above all, it all depends on your tastes, I know as for myself I am attracted almost only towards designs from mid-eighties to mid-nineties. But in Japan, available through specialized shops elsewhere, you can find many great books like the big "This is Animation" bibles like the ones on the different Patlabor films or Macross series, from the editor Shogakukan ; these are very detailed books that are perfect for beginning, as there are almost only mecha illustrations (have a look at the cover of the P2 book here : http://www.vulnepro.com/rotors/mook....._patlabor2.htm )
No. I'am not at EF... To expensive for me... and you would not find my there, even if i'am there... the three EF I was to... I spend the whole time im my room... alone... can't stand so many humans in one place... I don't get into the artist-areas... I was to embarrass from my art... so I stoppt going to Convention at all...
Well, you should've known that conventions are full of people, what were you expecting ? That IS the point of a convention ! That's too bad you were afraid by that, you know, I don't like crowd either, but in this case, I know what I am here for, for the art, for the artists, for the fun, and for some buyings. You concentrated too much on one bad point for you, and that made you loose the purpose you came for first. Plus, I really don't see why you were embarrassed from your art, we artists are certainly almost never totally contented by our own works, but you are one HELLUVA one, and you should take confidence from all those feedbacks you get, they are not fake I can tell you.
Of course, you don't NEED conventions apart if you are an absolute geek, but you are certainly missing something. Anyway, I understand your problem, and you just need two things : get more confidence in yourself, and learn not to react to your first feelings, above all when these are of the oppression kind. I know it's simplier to say than to fight against, but you also know that apart if you live in the middle of the desert, you WILL have to face your fears one day or another. Better be prepared when that day will come again, because it will, and soon enough.

OOOOOOH SHIT! Jesus... Asthy I suppose you just couldn't make any more details because there was no empty space for them and the tip of your pen was too thick... XD You did awesome work on it... Great details all in right perspective and well what to say more... it's just marvelous! I don't know where do you get your ideas... where in your mind born such tiny details but it seems there are plenty of them... Asthexiancal (crap next time use a shorter and easier nick... or... coffee grinder awaits for yout brain!!! BWAHAHAHA!!!) congratulations... and more such drawings in the future :3 pweeeease? :3
Ha ha ha, thaaankies buddy ^^ ^^
Weeeeell, let's see...
"OOOOOOH SHIT! Jesus... Asthy I suppose you just couldn't make any more details because there was no empty space for them and the tip of your pen was too thick... XD"
--> LOOOOOOL The tip of my pen is indeed a limitating factor, yes ! But I'm happy with that, otherwise I'd have to pass twice more time on it at least... ^^''''

"I don't know where do you get your ideas..."
--> As for the subject itself, I told it in my comment, I have been myself very impressed by one of Karabiner's pics...
"where in your mind born such tiny details but it seems there are plenty of them..."
--> Ah, this is no secret : I am a mecha lover, I've seen TONS of japanese anime about mecha and got even more tons of model kits and books on mecha. As a result, since it's been almost 30 years I'm drawing them, it quite becomes almost automatic, just have to pick in my brain database... ;D
"Asthexiancal (crap next time use a shorter and easier nick... or... coffee grinder awaits for yout brain!!! BWAHAHAHA!!!)"
--> Heh heh, nope, that is made on purpose ;D
You can call me by my real name anyway if you prefer ^^
"congratulations... and more such drawings in the future :3 pweeeease? :3"
--> Well, the problem is : my mecha stuff is not destined to be uploaded here... Because it's mecha stuff and not furry ! This, as an animal-shaped robot, is an exception, but I don't want to spam FA with things that have nothing to do with its purpose (my alien creatures were already on the edge)... Anyway, I do have many, many, many mecha pics still unscanned, oneday I'll display them somewhere, just have to... get time to do that, and a proper site....... :)

Thaaaank you !!! ^^
I'm not sure anybody would like to try colouring it though, and moreover, it's VERY, very delicate to do IMHO, because you'll have then to tighten the lines, find the right metallic colours, add just slight touch of bright colours here and there but wisely placed...

I love staring at this picture! The explosion of detail, the many points of articulation. There is so much to look at it and you have truly brought this being to life.
Most mechanoid drawings look like metal building blocks but when I look at yours I can visualize every cork, screw and otherwise operating fluidly and for a purpose. So amazing! :bows:
