Another way to deal with heartbreak

Dennis and Ristin are just that different. For one thing, Dennis' mother is a single parent with a day job. He's had to fend for himself a lot more.
But he wasn't all alone.
The big girl on the right is Caroline, his niece. When they were cubs she was more of a sister really. She's telling him what she thinks of Ristin and how much better off Dennis is without the ringtailed little loser.
The wolf's name I don't know. Nor even if he's gay.

I think at this point it's Ristin talking about his view of the what happened to Dennis when he was told about it that night on the swings.
Is it a flashback in a flashback if it's the same person discussing things from earlier but taking into account the view of another? More of a filling in the gaps?
