The Hive (in a nutshell)
I've had this idea floating in my head for years. So I finally sat down and made it when I was bored...
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7418298 ...a little backstory to what this is and stuff. It's all bullshit, but if you enjoy a bit of nonsense... have fun. |D
...dunno if I'm done with this yet. I'd love to do some mockups of what it'd really look like, since this is just a cut-away model. :P
This design is meant to be a nearly infinitely scalable IT solution for a large supercomputer. Solving efficiency issues involved with creating such a large data center include the air handling feature - cold air flows through the combs, through the server banks, and up the center shaft of the cell, where a large return air blower exhausts the hot air to the exterior. Another nice feature is that each cell is modular, and each bank, composed of five racks, can be removed and replaced as necessary. A maintenance hatch is located every three floors for maintenance personnel to access the central shaft inside each cell. Making use of every last bit of space, high-voltage electrical conduits run inside each corner of the cell, making electrical wiring simple and easy. Large fiber-optics conduits run up and down the height of the tower, stopping at each junction box to break into 1260 individual cat5 trunks using a large enterprise switch.
Is all this even remotely practical or necessary? I unno. You tell me.
