I think you're overestimating the dangers of rawhide. The toys we buy are made in germany, free of preservatives and chemistry (De-hairng of cowhides is done with lye), and I am not at all concerned about salmonella. Especially malamutes are very tolerant to rotten meat, and they are known to eat shit without any negative consequences. Dog digestion is much more agressive than human. :)
