That sounds like something Charles Darwin would have said. He ate damn near every creature he came across. It's a small wonder that anything is left on Galapagos

Hehe, true, true. The explorers of old had a funny way to show their love for the animals... For example, Alexander Brehm once got three striped hyenas and tried to raise them as pets... but as they kept biting his hands out of habit (hyenas kinda assume you are as sturdy as they are, they don't mean any harm by that) he one day took a club, and beat one of them to death in front of the others... Which of course, made the other two stop this behaviour... Guy was a great scientist, but must have had some real issues. Then again, he found sharks intriguing and interesting, and started researching them in earnest.... after a shark ate his brother!!!

The quite is from Monty Python, btw... It's a hilarious short feature about two rough big game hunters who hunt... insects! With machine guns and bazookas, and take the whole thing very seriously. My favourite is when after 2 minutes of explosions and gunfire, the narrator says:

"The mosquito is finished. But Hanks likes to make sure..."

Hank goes up to the smoking crater and empties a round of gunfire in it.

Hank: "Nothin' more dangerous then a wounded mosquito."

And oh yeah, Hank is missing one of his arms which he lost in a life-or-death struggle... with an ant.
