Commission work for
Majorcooke. Wanted to do a full on background, but I can only allow but so much for a simple design background. Nonetheless, it was interesting to work on another macro pic. X3 N-joy!

LoL I know right? That's the common trend these days with macros. I asked Major C about his character out of curiousity and shi is a very friendly macro who wouldn't hurt a fly. Not only that shi's very cautious on using hir (I keep saying "her") wings around public.
You know I have a friend of mines who is really into macro and he's mentioning the same thing as
kingman did a month ago, that there's very few macro characters who won't simply step on onlookers and crush towns like it was some kind of antpile, makes me sorts of wonder since they were usually grown FROM that size what's going on in their heads...but I guess it's fantasy so really there's probably no point to go deep an analytical about it.
I find the picture very cute, her general expression and her little tiny fanboys on the roof and all. there's a few flaws with the character though, to me the most prominent being that her wings seems to have little to no definition, to me they appear more like feather dusters then actual wings, but I guess you'd have had to demand more pay since wings are a friggin' pain to draw detailed pictures of (if you ask me anyways).
I do like how you did your highlights, I find it interesting you'd opt to use such a turquoise highlight. It makes her seem very....shiny in a way. Like those parts were oiled in or something, if she has fur or skin I don't really know. It's good transition as per always with the very lightest to very darkest areas and gives that smooth transition that helps you give volume to it. All of which I like. I must ask though; how far does her head stretch back for? It seems judging by the hair bone that it's very stretched back, almost like you know a xenomorph from alien? It's a bit funny to think of I feel but eeh might want to have done something about that huh? ^_^;
The bra was also something I like the way you did (although I personally detest the design choice to have it glitter like a discoball but eh it wasn't your choice after all it's in the character reference sheet) but I wonder about how the elbow looks and the legs seems a bit out of synch, the knee would be much farther up the leg when how it looks now. It appears to me now as though the top half of the legs are very long, while the bottom is very short. It'd make for a comical walk that's for sure ^^
Lastly I'll praise you on the same basis that
Mayanwolf did and say that i really like the amount of detail you put into the guys on the roof, it's impressive to see the amount of detail you put into that part. You can almost see what kinds of prints they have on the shirts they're wearing! One of them seems to be praying or something, is he like thanking the lord for the sight he is about to behold or something? xD
Good little commish.

I was reading your other critiques earlier and this one made me laugh the most (From the dust feathers to the way she could possibly walk I LoL'ed the most at) *ahem* But yeah, so I had to reply to this one first. The wings, I must confess was a total trial and error deal. I was trying out new methods of making wings via random tutorials I was looking up online. I do concur to your statement that wings can be a pain in the neck to make. I couldn't have said it any better. They are.
The neck was just plain flawed on my part if anything. Nothing else for me to really explain except yeah- I might want to pay attention to that when drawing a character with his or her's head tilted X3
The body joints I figured there would be something said about it. I saw that coming a mile away. When I was drawing the sketch version, I presented it to the user to look over it and see if there's anything he wants adjusted and such. The usual process I always do (out of courtesy) for customers before I move onto drawing the actual outlines and coloring the characters. So when I got the pic back he drew the lines how he wanted the joints to connect. I see what you mean as far as the knee joints etc, etc. Got it. But the way he wanted everything to seem (what I call) "jointless", it certainly threw me off for a moment since it's something I don't draw everyday. So this is by all means is the customer's preferrence as you may already know. He drew how the joints should be, I followed through.
The detail part, I was really going to go all out, but I had to remind myself that this isn't a full on commission for backgrounds. There was so much more I would have done to make it stand out so much better, but I couldn't. The customer paid for a simple background type commission, this is what he expects to get. Man, was I ever holding out on hooking this picture up! It made me wish he did pay for a full on version so I could go all out. XD

yeah I've tried my fair share of wings, it's quite a trial and error, but mostly error, sorts of hit and miss with that sorts of things. When I was trying to learn to make them I used tutorials like these ones;

http://theantimonyelement.deviantar.....rial-150844565
Just figured I should share them, perhaps it'll help you out a bit.
You know that kind of really long hair bone reminds me a lot of the tauren from WoW, they have like really long, curved necks that shows that sorts of thing if you've seen how they look?
Go figures it was the commissioner, I doubted you'd make an error like that, I've yet seen you do such a severe joint displacement. Thinking about it and how your female character seems to be mostly fighters I was sorts of thinking how those extremely short lower legs would work and well....she'd have a really long reach when trying to like kneecap someone, but you know just a small box in the way would turn out to be an unovercomable obstacle because she'd not be able to like bend the knee backwards to swing the leg forwards and over? It was sorts of a fun thought for me ^^
you know you're dedicated to your craft when you wish your customers pays more mostly for the extra efforts sake and not so much for the income ^^ But I can understand that in a way, the background is really what makes the macro look macro. if you know what I mean? Just draw a macro without a background to compare it with and it just looks like a normal guy. Even better draw a macro next to say a GIANT tinderbox or something and it'll appear small since we're used to see small tinderboxes, even if the tinderbox was actually gigantic in size ^^ it's a bit fun to think of I imagine

*Grabs pics from the links and adds them to the 1,000 other refs, tutorials, and inspirations folder* Yup, I think those'll work for now XD Y'know, I've been working on a tutorial or two myself for backgrounds on photoshop or whatever digi-art program that support any brush shapes. I was so close to finishing it last year until my Intuos 4 died, but once I do get my fiance's tablet in the mail, I'm so gonna finish it up. It's about making trees/bushes. Hopefully, it'll help someone on here or DA though they all will first be a FA exclusive posting until later. Thanks a lot on the links!
Yeah, I really am dedicated to my work a lot. Especially when I am doing a art piece for someone whether it be a request or commission and their idea has so much potential to be a full background pic. Heck, sometimes, I do random recalls on old commissions or requests just because I thought what they, the users who have waited and/or paid for their pic deserved something better from the recent than what I've done say, a few years ago. So I let them know that I'm redoing that old pic free of charge. Xilimyth is a perfect example along with
Kishimurakai when I first drew her character in 2009. A few months later after looking at it, I said, no... I need to do another pic of Akai. It just looks sloppy. Lol I did like 2 more sketches of her character. Just out of charity.
I think doing stuff like that no doubt gives a positive outlook on how I handle business. I really, really feel bad for those who paid for a pic and waited years for it if not ever receiving it. Scandal artists (and of course commissioners as well) just sickens me and that's why I try to throw in some bonus freebies just to give the commissioners their money's worth. Like for example, if I take over a month to do a paid pic, I draw them a free sketch. Even with their paid pic, they get any possible concept art I've drawn before initiating the actual drawing. Sorta like getting the "Behind the scenes" pictures of what I did for concept ideas. If and when I get more time to fully sit and draw a LOT, I'd do a lot more bonus pic freebies to draw in more customers. It'd be rare for someone to turn down free art, y'know? XD

hehe it's no problem dude I hope they help ya out some. bushes and trees tutorials I believe there's quite a few of on DA actually, just searching on "bushes and trees" in the DA resources folder gives over 3000 hits, now some of them are obviously stock images but yeah. personally I'd need something like a "how to not suck and shading" tutorial or something cuz that's something I need to practise with, especially since I try and work without lineart in the finished products. But we'll see, I'll hopefully get there with enough practise.
it's always good to see someone who truly appreciates his/her work, oftenmost you hear people just complaining so it's not only a trendbreaker but it's a very encouraging thing to see. A sorts of "if he can do it then there must be a chance for me too" sorts of thing.
And yeah you get a very positive readout from your commissioners I'd imagine, and that my friend is very good business indeed to have happy customers. because customers knows other potential customers who they might tip of you and what do ya know? you got yourself another customer. I feel almost like some kind of bank accountant lols like "Ok see here gentlemen here's the readout for the coming market index growth of India's Corn industry, now as you can see it's a very positive read for Trendbreaker Corn Co while a not so bright for GalaxyCorn Co, with todays market and with the future influx of market shares I suggest we invest into bigger business models such as Trendbreaker Corn Co."
Market boss guy: "The plack is over 4 years old...."
Me: "......"
Guy2: "yeah it says 2008 in the corner!"
me: *tries to hypnotize them* Yooouu wiill byyy coooOOOoooornn."
I'm so dumb sometimes xD;;
