Thank goodness for image editing programs!
You'd think that with 72 colored pencils at my disposal, I'd have an easier time choosing the proper shades to use. But there's this big gap between lighter grey and darker grey apparently, and the initial product wound up having darker shading than this. But a short workover with the dodge tool in Gimp helped lighten things up. It's not perfect, but at least now I'm happy with it.
I'm a bit worried, though. If I ever want to create a proper reference sheet of me, I need to figure out my own colors first.
I did not time myself this time. And yes, the empty thought balloon is intentional. What's on my mind is up to you. :)
(Of course, I know that it's pretty unlikely that anybody's actually going to say anything.)

Try blending the pencils rather than using each colour on it's own area ;) I did type a response earlier, but then you reposted and I forgot what I was going to say.
Oh, yeah! Look up crosshatching. Doing the light grey one way and the dark grey the other will really make a good median tone.

Blending was what I did before. I was worried it sorta made things look muddy with one color sitting on another. But looking at this attempt, I was better off with the older method. I will look up crosshatching, if I can remember to.
And sorry about throwing you off like that. I started trying to fix it up for an avatar, and realized that it was salvageable, so I tried to take the image back down as fast as I could. Guess I wasn't fast enough. :P
