I don't want to be a drama llama, but having this guy who we've never seem before show up to save the day and then instantly get eaten as soon as they are safe begs the question of what other character we've never seen before will show up to save them the next time they get in trouble. It damages the credibility of the series when you casually deux ex machina your way out of trouble.

When the writer says "And then a miracle happened, and they were saved" it's a DEM even if the miracle gets eaten afterward. Especially if it does, actually. Taco and I have already discussed this, though, so don't worry about it.
