Where is this leading me? What have I become? Am I more than what I was, or less?
Since the dawn of humankind, when our ancestors discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything from God, for justice, to simple psychotic rage.
If you want to make enemies, try to change something.
Corporations have more power than the government. We as a society often think that we have a right to expand, absorb, convert, or possess anything we need to reach our dreams. But time and time again, hasn't this led to conflicts with others who essentially believe the same thing?
How often have we chased the dream of progress, only to see that dream perverted? I could have given up by now, but my need to uncover the truth, to uncover the secrets others are hiding, and to survive, forces me to keep on going.
Even in a book of lies, sometimes you find truth.
History is written by the victor. History is filled with liars. If they lives, and we die, their truth becomes written - and ours is lost. The Illuminati will be the word. 'Cause all you need to change the world is one good lie and a river of blood. They're about to complete the greatest trick a liar ever played on history. Their truth will be the truth. But only if they live, and we die.
I never had a choice of what happened to me. Technology offers strength, strength enables dominance, and dominance paves the way for abuse. This technology, this strength, the temptation to misuse it is hard to resist.
Am I strong enough to stay human?
Change doesn't come without pain.
War… war never changes.
I won't rest until I find the truth.
This ends now.

I certainly would have guess Deus Ex to have been an influence. But that would have been it.
Funny thing, though, is that the image, itself, looks like a "predator" challenge in Batman: Arkham City. I just wanna scream, "Throw the f***in' smoke pellet! Damn button. What the~? Why won't you get away from the wall and go hide you dipsh**?!"
lol

Tai Young Medical was probably my favorite part of that whole game. Such awesome architecture, atmosphere and not to mention the bad-assery of getting around the public areas of the level in your own way.
Love how everything looks
Also this reminds me that I need to finish the Missing Link DLC :p I'm about a third of the way through it, stopped playing when I got distracted with other things.

One of my favorite games last year, took be about 40-45 hours to beat it (though I took it nice and slow).
It's basically like MGS mixed with Mass Effect, that's the closest thing I can relate it to. Levels are very open ended and most of the time there are dozens of ways to get around problems.

That's the beauty of it! You can play it like an action game, though kinda like MGS it does focus on avoiding direct fighting and planning out your actions (so it's very "stealthy" in that sense). If you just go in guns blazing for all levels, you have to be REALLY good at what you are doing to not get killed.
I didn't ask for this XD. But Clearly Deus Ex: HR is defo one of them. (As a few ppl have already said above).
PS. And as you can see from my avatar im a huge Deus Ex fan as its an awesome series... in all its gritty, cyperpunk glory. (And of course Adam Jensen is a part of that so he awesome too).
So for no real reason whatsoever i'll end my comment with the UNATCO theme not from HR, but from the original Deus Ex (IMO it maybe quite an old game, but in someways its still a better game than HR). Anyway here is the UNATCO theme from Deus Ex... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBPK_oXeJgA
Enjoy ^__^

Do excuse me if I'm taking the video game quotations a little too seriously or if my comment seems a bit out of place but I wanted to add my two cents.
"History is written by the victor. History is filled with liars.' Such a cliched phrase, I hear it fairly often quoted despite how wrong it is. History is written by the defeated just as much as it is by the victorious, The popular quote also implies that the victorious are incredibly dishonest in their recounting of the events, which doesn't happen as nearly as much as people assume if at all. I would in fact say that the defeated actually end up writing more of History than the victors. Alot of what we know about the Huns, Egyptians, Romans, Greeks ect. comes from their enemies. Off the top of my head, I can recount at least 3 instances of the defeated writing history, (I'm just an amateur historian by the way) Titus Flavius Josephus and his account of the First Jewish–Roman War, Thucydides and his account of the Peloponnesian War and Polybius and his account of the Third Macedonian War.
On an unrelated note, I do quite like the background work in the pic.

Howard Zinn I believe is accredited to first popularizing the quote, it should be noted that he is an extremely pessimistic person in general. Hitler did however say something similar to that. "The victor will never be asked if he told the truth"
Generally I find the "History is written by the victor." quote used by people who don't have a very well rounded and/or biased understanding of history.

Not quite true, If you examine the Cimbrian War, and learn the ultimate fate of the Cimbrii, you'd probably reconsider your stance. The Cimbrii were a tribe from the Northern European region that decided to migrate towards roman lands, literally the whole of the population went to claim fairer lands, which led to the Cimbrian war. The Cimbri inflicted at least three decisive and devastating defeats against the Romans. the total losses are estimated to amount to over 200,000 dead for the Romans and relatively few loses for the other side, the cimbrii are what the Romans considered mewling, disgusting, uncultured Barbarians of all people. Certainly one of the most humiliating defeats Rome has experienced in its early period. When the Roman General Marius took command of the roman army he decisively defeated the Cimbrii at the Battle of Vercellae a stunning and decisive end of the war. The cimbrii that weren't killed in the bloody battle were enslaved. Most other surviving cimbrii committed suicide rather than become a roman slave. Thus the only few surviving cimbrii were thus slaves.
Yet the Romans did nothing to hide the string of completely disgraceful and humiliating defeats it endured from the war, Something to consider I think.

The sources on the info vary from 150,000 roman losses to 200,000 but most don't deviate from the triple digits. You can't expect 100% accuracy concerning battles as old as this granted but it doesn't change the fact that Rome suffered a humiliating string of defeats by "barbarians". It would have made a lot more sense for them to just forget about it or say very little of the war and it's details rather than tone down the numbers or exaggerate.
You don't take into account that quite a few dedicated ancient historians such as Plutarch and Polybius do remain neutral and unbiased in recording history despite their loyalties and nationalities and went to great lengths to hear out both sides of the conflict when possible. Many historical sources are from dedicated historians who knew the importance of neutrality and ensured they did what they could to get accurate information, don't assume that just because they were born back 2000 years ago, that they were any less dedicated to the job of preserving history accurately.

dedication aint a shield again political influence, sure they them self might be neutral, but more often then not, historical text still around to be found today, might have past threw who knows how many hands...and minds with there own bias. Historical telling has always have a major flaw, it is written by humans, and so carried with it human flaws.
Which is why its rather fortuitous that there is more than one source to go by, though I'm not sure what exactly would merit a entire rewrite of the history of a fallen civilization. It would seem rather difficult to be able to destroy all copies of the original historical texts and make a rewrite. People aren't idiots, they'd now if parts of the original text were edited. Forgive my disbelief but it's difficult to fathom why somebody would want to rewrite original history. You couldn't just take a book edit it and demand people start writing your new version of the book and destroy all originals.
or you just use money to bribe enough folks to discredit a history writer until everyone things the person write lies, and naturally fades from history. Threwout history people of power have found ways of making lies of truths, and truth of lies.
A while ago I read a quite interesting article, tho not per say related to our history was quite striking. The author mused with the idea what if the story in The Lord of the Rings books was actually a romanticised propaganda telling of history commission by Aragon after he is crowned king and that actually Sauron was a radical promoting overthrowing the tyranny of Monarchy and the one ring was a Political manifesto promoting Democracy.

I think something like that would have been recorded, that "insert writer here" was considered to be a fraud and that "insert rich noble here" is in fact telling the truth with his new edited book. Would have been a big event for what was a rather uneventful life back in the ole medieval days. I can't really see the motive behind editing a fallen civilization's history either, to spend so much money on something that won't really benefit them.
Modern historians would have picked up on that and made a mention to it in the history books I'd think. Your theories aren't too likely, something as big as a massive edit of recorded history promises little benefit and would have required a mass purging of the original books, a lot of effort and money going into something that shows little personal benefit, if any.
As I recall, book burning only happened when certain texts were deemed "heretical" anyways though that might have led to some isolated historical religious texts becoming lost to time.
I'd be interested in seeing that article, haven't got a whole lot to do today, It'd be a good way to pass the time.

This is wonderful! I Loved this game. First single player game I finished and immediately wanted to play again.
I agree it is insufficient to conclude that history is written by the victor, however I believe it is equally deficient to assume the history we are presented is unbiased truth or the entire story. The most successful lies, are lies of omission.

I hope you realize, Tsai, that your art just made the Deus Ex FB page:
