"Hello? Is anyone left in here?" Hoot called out as she felt her way along the walls of a smoke-filled apartment. She had seen smoke coming from a local apartment complex from down the street and decided to investigate. As she got closer, terrified screams could be heard from within, and the young griffon wasted no time springing into action. She bolted inside past the frightened residents and joined with a few other brave souls to check for any trapped victims. As others escorted the elderly and frightened children outside, Hoot ran up to the uppermost level, calling out into the haze.
"Hello? Is anyone here?" the young griffon coughed repeatedly, hearing no answer. Suddenly, however, a shrill yipping could be heard. She called out again and moved closer, unsure of who or what this victim was. The room was filled with a choking gray fog that rendered vision all but useless. Getting down on her hands and knees, Hoot felt her way through the room until her left front talon rested upon a soft, trembling furry head. Almost immediately the figure pressed itself up close to her, desperate for salvation. Hoot knew she needed to get herself and the small animal out, though she was no longer sure of her surroundings.
CRACK!
Suddenly a section of the ceiling gave way as the flames ate away at any strength it held, sending blazing hot boards crashing down to the floor, narrowly missing them them both. Hoot looked all around, their only means of escape now blocked. They couldn't wait for help, it would surely be too late before anyone could reach them. A light could be seen very dimly through the smoke. More fire, maybe? No, this light was the wrong color...It was almost white...It was the sky...It was a way out!
Without thinking, Hoot clutched the small animal in her talons and took a running leap out the window, instantly regretting her decision.
"Come on wings! Work! Work!" she thought to herself, furiously flapping her tiny, flightless wings. "Come on! COME ON!!! PLEASE!!!"
Just when it seemed all hope was lost and the two of them would be sharing a hospital trip momentarily, Hoot opened her eyes and realized they were no longer falling, but gently drifting towards the ground. In the heat of the moment, a miracle happened.
"I.....I'm.....I'm flying...."
Okay, so like...I totally didn't ask permission before I did this...XD Just throwing that out there....
I've been watching
GRIMBLY for awhile now and greatly enjoying the art she posts for the back story of her character...A griffon with wings too small for flight, never actually able to fly on her own without help from others. Well, the other day this story came to mind in my head after I realized Hoot reminded me a lot of Olive the other Reindeer, who only flew when she absolutely HAD to...XD So um...Yeah...I'm not really that great of a writer partially because I don't really practice, but I went ahead and did it anyway!
Also, YAY for new style! I've never actually drawn like this before and I like it!! ^^ Screw drawing in styles that aren't mine....I'm practicing to get my OWN style better! <3
Sooo....Character =
GRIMBLY
Dog = Random widdle puppy
Art = me
Umm...Surprise? XD Hope you're not too mad about this, Hoot! XD
