Ah I get it...now I remember...that did seem kinda suspicious and I was beginning to wonder if it just meant that Mrs. Cake had been getting around Ponyville with some other stallions. Thanks for bringing me up to speed otherwise it'd be bugging me all day trying to get the joke >w<

Actually, it is. Fraternal twins happen when two eggs are released in the same cycle. At that point, each egg can be fertilized by different sperm. Normally, you'd expect one father's spunk to hit them both, in which case the twins would be no more related, and look no more alike than any other pair of siblings who are born at the same time instead of years apart. But if there's been some sleeping around going on, in a sufficiently short period of time, it's possible (though rare) for the twins to have different fathers. The fraternal twins is the also only way for twins to be different sexes - something else we see with the Cake twins.

Actually, if you want to try to nitpick this (awesome comic btw Jay. Funny as hell) It's possible for a woman to release two eggs at the same time. Because of this, if a woman had sex with two different men when this happens, it's a long shot but not impossible for a set of twins to have two different dads.
I just wanted you to know that this COULD happen. It happens frequently with stray dogs and cats, as they obviously naturally have multiples and release several eggs throughout a couple days, and easily find multiple potential fathers. Horses are more like humans in that they normally only release one egg but can have more. The only tricky parts in horses is why would there be another stallion around to tag her the same day, and that mares are prone to complications with multiples... but being anthropomorphized cartoons, that risk can be ignored.

You can't take the anatomy of cartoon characters to seriously. If you did that, you'd have to consider how Rainbow Dash can maintain balanced flight and hover with those wings, how Spike manages to hold up a head that is slightly larger than his body, and how Pinkie Pie does half the stuff she does when she theoretically has a skeleton.
Maybe if he did say the last part, we could believe him, but with that "you believe me look" just screamed a cover-up.

Like I said on DA, in a world where the Day-Night cycle is controlled by Unicorn magic and Weather Systems are engineered into place by Pegasis, expecting realistic genetics is kinda silly.

would you believe this was actually my second thought? My first thought was to construct a Mendelian square to try and figure out the heritability of pony traits, but only because I was in the middle of a thesis on the exact same topic for Mobian genomes. Of course, I kind of thought that he was making that face as the animators making a joke at the bronies because there was constantly arguing about if ponies could breed between the different kinds and how that would effect the children and all that stuff.

Its funny... Me and my friends do a MLP Roleplay on Facebook ((have our own private group)) and prior to the episode being relased or even heard of ((be aware my OC pony married Twilight... Dont hate, its just for our RP)) him ((hes a pegasus)) end up having an Earth Pony child... And that was before we knew about this episode XD we found that quite ironic.
