It may be a good idea to note the commissioner as he is the one who owns the character, rather then ask the artist who doesn't really know anything about the commissioner's characters. As well it's always possible they won't come here and see the questions.

Which is realistic lol I read somewhere that to a certain age, boys, or both genders, can look like either gender depending on they're hair and clothes, they only look like the right gender when theyre a bit older.

It used to be traditional to dress boys in girl's clothing up to a certain age, because there was a superstition about fairies stealing male children, so they would disguise them as girls to confuse the fairies. And, let's be honest, it's more economical to only have to make one type of garments up to a certain age.
