Any train nerds know what the tank in the picture is for? It looked like it had oil in it.

my random guess is that that's the new sand. Steam locomotives used to pour sand in front of its wheels to increase traction on the rails. this liquid may be used to accomplish the same thing, but with less wear to the rails and wheels.

Not sure...but it's definitely not a traction assist, like sand. Not enough of it there to last more than a few runs. x3 Looks like it may be some sort of automatic oiler for a part of the wheelset.
