I miss Cali and everyone back in NY.
----
Beautiful Cali cat.
This is my co-worker Cali from Country Critters. She is a tri-color calico cat who has polydactylism, which is a congenital physical anomaly that causes her to have extra digits on her paws. She basically has extra fingers and toes!
She has been the store cat for years, and is probably close to fifteen years old now. I always tell her she doesn’t look a day over three. Cali loves catnip and spending time perched comfortably above our bird seed bar area snoozing in the sun.
Her eyes are so very beautiful. So much more striking than could ever be truly captured in a picture. I tried my best though.

She is very beautiful, and i regret that i can't see her in person.
You're so right, the beauty of felines is absolutely not captureable. I've tried it so many times.
Is this very rare, i never heard of this polydactylism of cats, but know a guy with 6 fingers on each hand ^^ (Nut funny for him to find gloves in winter *g*)
This photo is awesome, the longer i see it, the harder i can resist his staring o.o

I think it is something that comes with feline nature of aloofness. It permeates everything!
It isn't extremely rare, but I suppose it is rare enough. It is more common in cats found along the East Coast in the US, Canada, and in parts of England and Wales. It's all in the genetics of those populations, they carry and express the gene. They can be found in other places though. I currently live in Minnesota and volunteer with local rescues. We have had some kitties in our care that had extra digits.
I couldn't help but giggle at the mention of your friend with his extra fingers. I feel for him during the winter time alright! He'd probably have more luck finding a personal tailor on Etsy to make him gloves specially for him!
It is really amazing, the things they can do with those extra toes! I have witnessed polydactyl cats holding various objects while playing, or using the "thumb" mitten created by the extra digits to manipulate objects.
You can read more about it here:

This could be it, it's just their nature. It looks as if she would come trough my monitor every second.
It's very interesting to read about this abnormality, do the extra fingers" have claws too? Would love to watch a cat playing around with this extra abilities to manipulate things and how he/she uses it :)
Yeah, i will tell him to see on the internet for some fitting gloves. He can't even use some mittens, because he has 2 thumbs each haha. He will find something for sure.
Thanks for the link.

Very welcome! I hope your friend can find something. Extra fingers are one thing, but I can't even imagine what it must be like to have extra thumbs!
All of the cats I have personally seen with polydactylism do have claws on their extra digits. I have heard stories of polydactyl cats that didn't have fully formed extra digits, just nubs lacking claws, but I have never seen one.
You have to be careful with some of them, because cats scratch objects to file and shed their claw casings and keep them healthy.
The placement of the extra digits on the polydactyl kitties makes it hard for some of them to condition those claws and keep them healthy, so owners typically have to help them out and keep them trimmed. Otherwise they get something similar to an ingrown nail and it can cause infections.
I have never searched for any, but I bet you could find videos on Youtube of polydactyl cats at play or getting in to mischief. :)
A friend of mine had one that knew how to open some latches with his paw because his were like little thumbs. He also liked to carry off straws, pencils, paintbrushes, and all manner of similar items. He'd use his paw to pick them up and then run off with them in his mouth.

I could have sworn I responded to this! So sorry for the long delay.
One of my own cats is this active and mischievous, and she has normal paws! To date the most amazing things she has 'stolen' and run off with, were my fiancee's bluetooth, and his wallet. She loves playing with and snatching random objects.
You should get a kitty. They are good company and full of love and antics. :)
You are very welcome for the info. Thanks for reading and commenting!
