I've been looking into drawing the other two puca that Sversti lives with in the forest. I've decided that one is male, and the other is female. This is the male. I don't have a name for him yet!!
I'll enlighten you all with a little summary of these creatures:
"Sversti's race is loosely inspired by the Púca, which is a faery/goblin creature in Celtic lore. They're talented shape-shifters that are mischievous, playful spirits. They can only shape-change into creatures they have seen and spent years practicing with. So when puca sees an animal they've never seen before, it will take him/her many years to learn how to take on that shape. The most common shapes for puca depend on the region in which they live. For example, temperate forests will have squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, foxes, wolves, bears, possums etc. that a puca can learn to shift into.
Working off of this, I redesigned this creature to resemble an odd mixture of a doe mixed with a... a.... I have no idea. An alien dog? They're cute though.
Anyway, this creature has 'hands- three fingers and one opposable thumb on each foreleg- and three toes on the hind leg. They are able to stand and walk on its hindquarters but cannot run. They need to be on all legs for running.
It's features are elegant and exaggerated. They have long, pointed ears, elongated snouts, and dark black eyes. I gave them very long, skinny limbs covered in shaggy fur. Standing upright, I'd assume it would be roughly seven feet tall (long neck, you know); on all fours, they might reach four feet from the ground to the shoulder. They are maned, and their coarse hair starts growing from between their ears to the shoulders. This hair can also be found in a tuft at the tip of their long tail.
I also gave this race the ability to gender-shift as a part of their inherent extra-normal shape-changing abilities, although Puca are only fertile in the biological gender with which they were assigned at birth (so a male puca transformed into his female counterpart cannot bear children).
You can easily identify the true gender of a member of this race by the color of the inside of the mouth; males exhibit a bright orange mouth in all forms while females exhibit a vibrant blue. These colors may also glow in low-light conditions to attract weary prey.
Lastly, Puca prefer to live in small groups, although some may be found living in solitude. They are a rare species, and were the source of a myth that died long ago. Even so, they will often pick on anyone who dares to live close enough to their forest, or venture within."
