my games and my friends have this little house rule called "DM Plus 40." Where sometimes 1's are given pardons if they're at piss poor times or too often. We counter that rule with the doubles thing. Two rolls of 1 in a row and your character dies in an embarassing way. I've had a character stab himself in the neck, fall out of an Inn window onto a sword, and while standing on a cliff, had an eagle crash into the back of his skull, throwing him to his death. Rolling a 1 sucks

Kiit had to reach over the dm screen last session to change a players roll.
