When sculpey gets hot (while you're working with it) the surface gets very soft, so yeah tons of fingerprints. I combat it in a few ways, first I let the sculpture cool when I'm done with it, and do a bit more smoothing then. One can also use a brush dipped in water, or rubbing alcohol (faster) to smooth it out. Then after baking it I'll use sanding sponges, they're much better for curved surfaces than regular sand paper. The good ones look like this, thin and pliable.
Right now I'm trying to sculpt a larger pony and I can't even hold her upsidedown to sculpt the bottom without leaving a deep palm print on her back. Sculpey is a diabolical substance. I need to invest in an armature stand eventually I think.
