You know, I always thought that the people in the battle network series were kind of dumb. Why is everything online? It makes no sense. Just as an example, one plot-line had killer dishwashers being controlled via the internet. Why would anyone want their dishwasher online in the first place? It's madness! It was still a pretty fun game, but seriously, WHY?

It was for self maintenance and convenience.
Plus, you can actually have your dishwasher hooked up online now.
Ever heard of online security?

What kind of maintenance could you possibly perform on a physical machine from the internet? And how much more convenient can it be than just pressing a button on the machine itself? You still have to load it yourself, so you might as well since you're already standing right next to it.

It's still an electrical appliance, I dunno.
At least Airman.EXE's area made sense. He broke the gas heating in Yai's house and spread it through the ventilation ducts. :/

I suppose that makes slightly more sense, but I still don't see why those things would be connected to the wider internet. The house's own intranet, sure. But why would you risk giving total strangers access to your house?

Well, really you can do anything with how much there world (and very soon ours) with how widespread wireless and internet is.
I mean, when you play the game, most of the home and building areas don't have any access to the actual internet.
The only places in the house that do have internet access are the character's PCs, which most likely have the access to the home security.
Simple hacking via net navi would give anyone access to someone's house.

So basically,
1) hack an iPhone
2) unlock house
3)
4) profit

Yes, but highly sensitive government computers are also connected, even though there is absolutely no need at all for them to. In fact, considering how much of a security risk the net is, whoever made the decision was an unparalleled idiot. You'd think they'd at least have the good sense to keep those offline, but no.

Yeah, exactly. The original version was even more unsafe.
It was a program you had to call by phone. So if anybody just happened to get your program's number they could wreak havoc on the house.
Course, back then, it only hooked up to appliances and was as simple as reinstalling the device.

Who could have ever thought that was a good idea?

I love this, especially because Battle Network is my favorite Mega Man series.

The only thing I question is his glowing belt. Does it radiate with justice?

That red ball isn't anything special; but he can detach from it.

I have to play that game again, despite how long the drab sequences of the story become.
