Here's another character whose status in The Lizard Queen Chronicles is uncertain. Here's her story: Liasu Kodara was Turja's bodyguard on Zidnor and also a close friend. After Turja left, Liasu eventually found her way to Turja's new home planet where she has reclaimed her old job. Liasu's weapons of choice are knives. She is an expert not only in using knives in hand-to-hand combat, but also in throwing them. Liasu's skill with knives is so highly-developed that she can actually use them with some effectiveness while holding them between her toes! But she prefers to do that only as a demonstration to impress people.
Liasu takes great pride in being Turja's valued employee and personal friend. But her devotion runs deeper than that--she secretly wants to be more than friends with the queen, if you get my drift. Liasu swings both ways.
Though I'm not sure how much I'm going to use Liasu in the LQC, I can tell you that you'll see her on the very first page.

Well, basically, I think of a bunch of random consonants and vowels, smush 'em together, and repeat until I find something that sounds good and fits the character. I do try to stay consistent within each "language"; for example, Race A has a particular sound in its language that Race B does not, and I name characters of those races accordingly. I do have other rules, too, such as the rule that all Serpentfolk female names (like Ambiri) end in a vowel, while all Serpentfolk male names (like Kaunath) end in a consonant. I'm very picky about names; sometimes a character will go unnamed for quite a while before I find just the right name for him or her. I've been known to make random letter charts to choose from when I'm stuck in a creative rut. Plus I used to have this word game called Perquackey which had a bunch of dice with letters on them instead of numbers, and sometimes I used to roll them and try to make names from the letters that came up. That was fun.
