I had this fantastic weekend of roleplay and makeup effects, and here is the first of several pics I will be posting from it!
I have a thing for clowns. Mostly a good thing! I have had this clown character named Rinaldo in my mind for many years, and have dressed up as him using masks in the past. This was the first time he was done using makeup.
The wonderful Jacob O'Hare studied my face and determined I would make a good auguste clown. The makeup is flesh based, with the colors and lines used to heighten certain features of the face without overly masking them. They are the most human looking, vs. whiteface or grotesque types of clown makeups.
I think the look he made for me is just wonderful. It is a very expressive makeup, and it moved really well with my face as it was specific to my contours. The one time I had ever tried a clown makeup on my own turned out weird looking as I ignored my facial structure and just "painted" on a face. The result wasn't awful, but was nowhere near as touching or beautiful as this.
Rinaldo is a soft spoken and gentle clown. He's quite on the shy side. Even when he's happy and smiling, his eyebrows betray a certain sadness or uncertainty which emphasize his timidity. That said he is a true gentleman, and would not wish any wrong to occur to anyone. If/when I do this makeup for myself I will give heavy consideration to how to perform and emote. I owe it to Rinaldo, he's alive now and I won't shortchange him.
