...on the horizon for this particular couple...involving a bit of coaching and some hand-crushing. Where the award is a beautiful new family, and a reminder of why you never make out after the track meet under the bleachers without protection... for the next eighteen years. ;)
Very nice!

I know I'm gonna sound like such a prick, but that's sorta what I thought too. I'm more worried about what this might mean financially for the new family. I'm glad that they're happy, but here's hoping that the daddy's gonna pick up any slack when the baby arrives. With one cheetah out of her profession, I just hope that baby's gonna have enough of a means to thrive to its fullest potential.
But, there's always the possibility that she'll bounce back. There are plenty of stories out there of natural athletes getting back into competitive condition months after childbirth, so her future as a runner isn't hopeless. (Not to mention she was running pretty far into her pregnancy, so it's not like she's gonna go too soft by the time she delivers.)
Either way, I'm glad that the baby's coming into a loving family.
Heh, I guess I thought of this a tad too much, eh?

Nothing wrong with putting thought into things like that, it looks like there's plenty here to go off of. Looks like she did keep running despite her steadily growing belly, so she's probably going to do her best to get going again quickly. Of course, it's hard to say how it'll affect her long term. If this is just high school track, it might never have amounted to anything anyway.
No, I had a similar response. She's basically doing the Hollywood archetype thing of having to choose between her work and her family. (or, not, since I doubt she chose to become pregnant) It is cute, and well drawn, but it still feels sort of...exclusive. I'd feel a bit better knowing that the father had some sacrifice to make, too, but that's outside the realm of a 2 page comic.
