of his character Yuri as a Dunedain ranger from the Tolkien universe.
The Dunedain were descendents of the Numenorians and occupied both the northern kingdom of Arnor and the southern kingdom of Gondor. They were gifted with a longer lifespan and slower aging process, and were known for their wisdom and nobility. For a time they were scattered, traveling the lands as mysterious Rangers, elusive and solitary...but after Aragorn reclaimed the throne of Gondor they were reunited.

I admit my knowledge of the Dunedain is a bit fuzzy since I tend to study the elves more, but that does sound about right. I remember when I was researching for this one I did read about that kindgdom falling and leaving Gondor as their main stronghold, even though that too was ruled by stewards for several years.
