that's mostly because ruby's design was conceived by the fans, and although a lot of fancharacters are utter crap, a rare few people are talented enough to make characters look better

a quick redesign would put marin back in the running -- and she's an aussie so she can catch snakes and ruby can't nyah nyah

Believe me, I don't think either of them would act like that "for real". Ruby's a very sweet and polite young girl, and I'm sure Marin isn't mean either.
It was more of a comment on how some fans are.

This was mostly a joke on how some fans go rabid against fan characters for no reason, and I wanted to join the Faker Joke wave XD (part of the funny here is that Ruby existed before Marin, but has been accused of being a rip-off of her)

I'm not much of a fan of Ruby myself. Not because of THAT, but because she's one of her creator's many many characters who seemed to be created just to pair off with official characters - in her case, Tails.

Personally I think Ruby and Tails make a cute couple, better than for instance Tails and Cream. Like I said, personal opinion.
And they're not so many many, there's just four of them ;) (nothing, compared to my squad!) Of those, only three are paired with official characters - Sapphire doesn't have a boyfriend. In any case, they're still quite original and make nice matches for the official characters, so I like them.

I know this is an old post, it's off topic, and I really have no business writing here ... but I had to speak up on my own behalf. Which I never really do, so err...please bare with me. XD

It's no skin off my nose if anyone doesn't like my fancharacters or prefers the official characters to them (hey as long as people are still Sonic fans I really don't care what you think of my fan characters) I only want to make it clear that they weren't made with the purpose of being paired off. That was the last of my intentions, especially because most of them were made before the characters they're paired with now even came out (or at least before I ever heard of them). Actually the purpose of me making my fancharacters back when I did, was because there were no female characters in the Sonic games. That was really the only reason. The pairings just came later because they seemed like they'd work. :shrugs:

At least you react better than some other creators of characters I've complained about, they get all pissy and act like I'm calling them losers/sluts/whatever just because I don't like their fancharacters. -_-; Ugh.

I’m pretty sure Marine is a raccoon and not a raccoon-dog, there’s a huge difference.

And if you want another faker, try Mirror the Raccoon-Dog. He was the last prototype in Gerald Robotnik’s “Ultimate Life Form” project before Shadow the Hedgehog. Because of this Mirror is the closest thing to an older brother Shadow has, and you can tell with as often they argue about who’s the real “Ultimate Life Form.”

heh i saw a fan made pic (forget where) of sonic and shadow bitchin at each other to see who's better and silver popped up outta nowhere saying hi guys sonic and shadow looked at eachother then at the sametime they point at silver calling him a faker then sonic and shadow start bitchin wondering who called silver a fake the fastest lol it was jokes

Yeah, with the amount of hedgehogs they've come up with now, it's a whole league XD (there is one continuity with more hedgehogs though; the old manga had LOTS of them. Like, Hedgehog Town, really. 'course Sonic was the only "hero" hedgie in it.)
And let's not forget that Shadow is like 50+ years old so story-wise, HE's the original! ;D You can have lots of fun with that.
But really, in the games - is there any other time than the introduction of Shadow where anyone used the expression "fake hedgehog"? Where else is it actually used in-game?
