In the second edition of Dungeons & Dragons, kobolds were described as canine-like, but were once more described as draconic creatures by the time the game evolved into third edition and beyond.

Yeah, second ed was also the least popular edition. Not saying it was because of canine like kobolds, just saying that all the later editions were far more popular, and that these more popular editions had draconic kobolds, and that the canine like kobold only ever appeared in second ed, which was also the least popular edition.
