This may sound odd (or maybe not, coming from me), but this reminds me of the scene in 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' when Barry, the toddler, is looking through the window-screen as the alien ships approach the farm-house. His eyes go wide, he smiled, points, and goes, "Toys! Toys ... !*

All the multi-colored lights and the starry speckles in the Pokemon's eyes make me think this, as well as the fact that he seems to wear an innocent, youthful visage. One tends to follow a figure's gaze, and since your figure's gaze goes 'off-screen' ... well, putting it all together, it makes you wonder just what's happened or about to happen.
