My idea for Portal 3 is to have it star the Ratman seeing as how Chell is now free. It'd be awesome to know his side of the story since we never see nor hear of his fate, yet we always know that he was there what with his crazy writing and drawings on the walls. Also his dens in which he collects his beloved coffee cups. One to take control of such a crazy character would prove to be a challenge itself. Sadly it will never happen for Valve can only count to 2....

I know not if this is the correct date... nor do I know the actual time, for time holds no meaning trapped in this retched place. I've also forgotten how many days there are in a month. My diet consists of rats, cockroaches, and any other manner of small animal or insect that somehow makes it's way down here... I've even seen a raven one time that enjoyed feasting upon the potatoes that grow from those stupid child experiments from 'bring your daughter to work day.' The potatoes hurt my teeth so I've stopped eating them.
To drink I chug down the remains of leftover coffee I find throughout the center. You'd be amazed at how many coffee makers there are in this place. I steal them and use the heating plates to keep warm. Also to keep myself from going completely insane, I've taken up the hobby of collecting coffee cups. They are my trophies that I proudly keep around me in my many dens where GLaDOS can't find me."

Perhaps I should share a little about myself; my name is Doug Rattmann and I was the only scientist GLaDOS kept alive to test forever until I was killed by them. I will not die of old age for she has injected me with chemicals to stop my aging process... which has also bleached my skin and turned my eyes red. All of my equipment are the first prototypes in the Portal Testing Initiative, from the jumpsuit on my body from the high fall boots on my legs. My portal gun is old and rusted now, I'm amazed it still works for I am literally hundreds of years old now.... I MUST find a way out...."

To pass the time I draw on the walls and hunt the turrets for sport. It's not very hard, I just kick them over... a huge design flaw if you ask me. As for my drawings, I have grown found of GLaDOS' next victim after me... Chell. Her beauty astounds me... or maybe that's just because I haven't seen another human being in decades. I heard she was the one who took her down in the end... yet was also the one who reactivated her.... Why one would do such a thing is beyond me. But one things for sure, I WILL find you GLaDOS... and I WILL kill you myself.
I WILL ESCAPE THIS PLACE!!!"

In Portal 1, the only thing we know of him is that he's the one who wrote and drew on the walls in the areas behind the testing area. He's the one who wrote the famous "The cake is a lie" quote. In 2 we know that he's still out there because he still writes and draws on the walls, now drawing many pictures of Chell, so he must know of her existence. Also as easter eggs, you can find a few places that he's made his den. You'll know when you find them because the are will be covered in coffee cups and more drawings. We never actually see or hear anything else about him otherwise.

in the story, ratman dies long before chell wakes up, ratman turned on the reserve power to chell so she would stay asleep, when it ran out chell was forced to wake up, kind of like the story of changed, anyway, chell wakes up and wheatley finally finds the only test subject that is alive. that's the start of the game fully explained to ya.
