God punishes us for what we can't understand.

my mother's health has been questionable. seizure or blackout, either way, bad news.
doing better now, but that was a rough few days.

I'm not sure what I am actually. I'm not a member of any organized religion, so labels are hard, but I'm not a die hard atheist. I don't believe in any deities, and I seriously doubt any exist but ... there'd have to be more than one if there were any for it to make any sense to me.
besides ... how arrogant do we have to be to think any gods that exist have nothing better to do than babysit our asses?
realistically, I don't worship anything, but I have a very healthy respect and almost reverence for nature as a whole. agnostic pantheist? dunno.
sorry if that doesn't make much sense.

Actually, strike that, I have enough in common with some native american and celt druidic traditions that pantheism probably best describes it. with aspects of hindu ... and maybe tibetan buddhism? but I have some beliefs that most people would consider really strange and probably laughable.
wow, sorry this got so complicated. :I

I believe we imagine "God" and we use the thought of a higher power to punish ourselves, subconsciously. It's easier than saying, "I fucked up, I deserve the bad ramifications of this situation."
I'm not sure whether it's a good thing or bad thing. Either way the emotion in this is beautiful.

I think god is mostly a creation of people in positions of power used to keep that power. religion is one of the most divisive, destructive institutions ever created, and people told what to do and how to live are people who don't have to consider the consequences of their actions or those of their society. It's a terrible thing.
every religion under the sun probably started out peaceful and as a way to justify morality without having to think too hard. but now, they're outdated tools. I think that most of them have things to teach us, but taking them as a whole and believing blindly is unhealthy.
thank you for the compliments, by the way.

It's like your speaking directly from my brain. Any time someone asks me around religion, I tell them that the basis of each religion has good lessons. There are good moral people who follow those religions, and then there are people who use religion as a tool to put themselves above others.
I think that humans need something to look to to explain why we are here, and what comes next. Otherwise, life just seems moot. I don't think that's a bad thing. If you need someone to pray to, by all means, that's your business. But the moment your imaginary friend starts having influence on my life, or the lives of those who don't subscribe to the same imaginary friend, that isn't right. That's why religion needs to be separate from government. But then, government couldn't use to it to control those with less power...
I'm gonna shut up now. I could ramble on for days.
