All shaved and good to go. I will likely add some more shading to her around the muzzle but I wanted a more natural blend. I looked up a lot of references and didn't see much in the way of spots on their faces.
I have no idea why her eyes are red here. Her eyes are brown!
Anyway, paws will be done tomorrow.

It's the ears and the nose I see. The bridge slants more evenly on the hyena face, where as the slant at the bridge here is more dog, but that can be for comfort reasons. The ears though seems to be a big issue (unless requested smaller) a hyena's ears are HUGE compared to it's face and beady little eyes. Also the almond head looks fine here and the furring is great. I can't wait to see the colors added. I bet it will pull it all together.
Sorry figured I would answer. I hate critique do much since I am not a fursuit builder I feel I got no room to talk :)

Yeah I actually just spent the last hour re attaching the ears to make them face more forward and flare outward. It looks much more hyena like. Yeah I didn't do too much of a slope so that the wearer can see in front of them. It does have a slight slope but I did make it more subtle. I will be taking some new photos at the end of today since I am almost finished with the partial

Woofie said essentially what I was thinking. The ears are a big part of defining a hyena. Especially a toony hyena. The head shape is a little harder to translate into a head with good vision and the eyes on a hyena are quite small and dark.
The markings on the average hyena are usually a darker face and dark ears with a light tan with spots on the rest of it. But since this is someone's character, that isn't important.
Hyenas seem to be one of the species that many fursuit makers have a lot of difficulty translating well. (even when going for realism).

Thanks for the input. I went ahead and redid the ears, For some reason when I attached them to the head they ended up leaning way back, I fixed them so that they point more foreword and flair out to make that tear shaped ear. Yeah hyenas are an odd species to build, their face reminds me more of a skunk or a rat than a canine and yeah, as much as would have loved to match the shape of the head perfectly, the owner of the suit needs to be able to see, I think after this I will do some experiments with new eyes should I be commissioned to build one of these in the future.
Well, hyenas are actually more closely related to weasels, skunks, and ferrets than to cats or dogs. So it makes sense that their head is slightly closer in shape to a skunk than to a dog. The nose itself is important, since hyena noses aren't like dog or cat noses either. They have a very defined jawline, and their ears sit further back than most animals (since those huge jaw muscles have to go somewhere.)
I think one way would be to make the eyes themselves smaller, since Hyenas have very small beady black eyes that are set wide on their head.
One day I plan on making some hyena-specific resin bases. One realistic, one toony.
