Summer 1991, Milwaukee Road X-5000 Dynamometer car sits at the roundhouse at Shoreham. Built of a surplus heavyweight passenger car it was one of only a few such type cars remaining, it's mostly a steam era relic from when railroads built their OWN steam engines. (It last saw use however when the Milwaukee wanted to test out the new at the time General Electric 'U' series locomotives. It is believed that it may have been the last US railroad to do such tests on a locomotive, let alone a diesel)

The Shoreham roundhouse still stands, BARELY. Last heated in 1998, its now sans surrounding shops, track and roof and its future isn't clear.
