I grew up idolizing Don Bluth, and even though there's a lot of weirdness to his movies that I notice now as an adult, I still just love his style, so I've Bluth-ified Greylock and Niko. Sparklies galore! Also obligatory Secret of NIMH necklace because this picture wasn't sparkly enough, and yeah yeah I made Niko into a Bluth girl after all. She's making the woo-woo eyes

I can't help but think the sparklies and OMG COLOURS were a side effect of a) WE CAN DO SPECIAL EFFECTS IN ANIMATION WITHOUT COMPUTERS, WATCH, I SHALL COVER EVERYTHING WITH SPARKLIES! and b) ...it was the 80's. (I drew the freaking Take On Me Icons and I agree with one person's assesment of the 80's: "IT'S LIKE THEY JUST DISCOVERED COLOUR AND DAMNIT THEY'RE GONNA USE IT!"
Still I just been able to start work again on what is supposed to be a stupidly on model sculpture/maquette of Charlie sitting waiting to be finished on my desk so OH WELLZ.

All owl's eyes must glow like the Great Owl in NIMH, no matter how lame the actual owl character in question may be. (Lookin at you, stupid singing Rockadoodle owls.)
Also I refuse to believe Dragon from NIMH was a cat like they said he was. No cat looks that monstrous, no matter how evil they may be.

(The "SPARKLE SPARKLE SPARKLE" thing doesn't even come from a Bluth review [it was actually from a Thomas the Tank Engine one...yeah you read that right], it just FIT TOO WELL.

Can't say I noticed much "weird" about his work (well, besides maybe Rockadoodle. "I'M A FURRY"), but then again it's been a while. I know I used to looooove The Nightmare Before Christmas when I was younger, but viewing now as an adult I'm like, "eh". You captured the Bluthiness very well, I know you'd be lying if you told me you didn't enjoy drawing all of that pastel haze
Ahhh, Don Bluth, love 'em or hate him, there's been a definite impact his style has had on the animation industry for years. I was always entranced by his work as a child, since even then I knew it had a certain flair that was lacked by all the other animation companies that were operating at the time. He even had a massive impact on how I draw, XD.
Gotta' admit this one of the best approximations of his style I've seen, everything about this picture oozes cute, and it looks like it could have been taken right out of one of his films! Beautiful job
