Long ago, the colony of Fusang broke off contact with the great nation of Kilen-- in response to corruption in the nobility, it is said --and disappeared into near-myth. Indeed, the brutish Pasiphans, who still thought the ocean went on forever, often denied the existence of Fusang as an eastern fantasy. When it was discovered that Fusang existed on the east coast of the recently re-discovered continent of Terrapinia, Pasiphan scholars had to scramble to avoid eating too much crow. Since the renewal of relations, many strange and wonderful creatures have moved between Kilen and Fusang....
Wu San Měi (狐叄美) is a hu li jing, or fox spirit. While many appear as beautiful young women for the purpose of seduction, San Měi has taken the likeness of an exotic, handsome young man with pale skin and long, flowing hair. Not without a sense of irony, he often appears in the role of foxlike demons in the latest plays from the distant island nation of Horai, and is popular among male and female Fusangese aristocrats alike.
