So here's the deal with Rogan: almost every one of my characters has some weird scar or physical quirk... it's kind of A Thing with me, you may have noticed :v But Rogan's messed-up paws are actually inspired by personal experience!
In his story, he accidentally gets boiling hot oil all over his forearms. The skin is all dry and thick- he doesn't have full sensitivity in his fingertips. It's prone to peeling and cracking, sometimes to the point of drawing blood, and it's generally super unsightly.
now, I've never scalded myself, but I do have a recurring skin condition that produces all these symptoms (and more!) every summer. It's really more annoying than truly painful or anything, but it is not fun at all, and even though the flare-ups seem to be less severe as I get older, idk if they'll ever totally go away, and there is no cure.
Rogan knows that feeling :c SOME HEALER FOX YOU ARE.

I have Dishydrosis too, though visibly not to a level as bad as yours (only flares up during very long periods of hot, humid weather, when I wear plastic gloves, when I use water-based lotion or when I handle a lot of chemicals). Which is unfortunate since my work implies wearing gloves and handlings chemicals. At least now that I know what it is I've learned to wear cotton gloves and use petroleum jelly instead of lotion, and it's gotten a lot better.
In any case, I feel your pain! Kind of literally, sometimes, even.

I started getting that on my hands due to mold in the place I used to live in (also other unpleasant side effects.) Digressing, its stuck around after a move and the only thing that seems to make it go away is taking vitamin D3, 5k IU gelcaps. strange eh? Oh and mine got so bad that washing my hands can feel like I'm using acid in cuts. x.x
