This is my boa constrictor, Jazz, in one of her best, most penetrating portraits (in my opinion) ever. I took this photograph actually with a Camcorder (Sony HDR-HC1), in which the only available light is off to the back left of the camera. Because the chair was a swivvle office chair, I was able to spin around to make the affect of the shadows contrast the individual scales.
Also, I love her way too much, so I like taking photos of her! ^_^

If I show Jazz, here, affection (holding her in my lap, stroking her scales), she will become more and more comfortable in my presence. After holding her daily for 2 years, I can reach my hand into her cage, and she will know its me because I have a unique smell that she can only detect, and she will automatically associate that smell with warmth and safety. Now, if someone new comes into my room and tries to reach into her cage, she will detect a new odor, and will become cautious. She won't strike, but she'll freeze into a position and continuouly taste the air to see if the newcomer is a friend of foe. ~(:
