The german "Werk" refers to a place or thing where something is made or done. "Kraft" means power. So Kraftwerk means power plant in english.
Another example is the word "Kunstwerk", which means artwork.

Yes, I'm aware of what 'Kraftwerk' means (aside from band name). I speak German.
What I wanted to know was the difference between the German morpheme's Werk and Fabrik :P
(The only difference I can find in English, is that Fabrik translates to 'factory' and Werk translates to 'works' or 'plant', which doesn't shed any light on the difference between the two. )
