This probably doesn't need any explanation.
In sound, it's a bit of a tribute to Crush 40 - who I have to thank for indirectly getting me into this whole genre of music, even if their style (as much as they've ever actually pinned one down) is a bit younger than my own age group now :) I don't think I quite stuck with it, but they're where the slightly more rock-like rhythm and structure came from.
People who have heard the soundtrack to a certain game of mine will recognize that I may have lifted the chorus a bit. I liked it too much to only use once...!

Unfortuntely, as I've come to realize, distance is a small enemy compared to time... it's something that happens to everyone. The six of us in my family are never going to be living in the one house again (something that, honestly, is a very good thing), and my friends aer never going to be living together like they did in university - and around where you used to live, things change, people move away or die, and others grow up. For that reason, there really is no way home... all we can do is appreciate the present of our lives, before it also slips into an unattainable past :)
Thanks a lot, I'm really glad that the sound came through :) I'd love it if Crush 40 did more music independently, as well - though I have to admire their sheer cheek of releasing a "best of" album despite having released only one other album ;)
Looking back at the words, they do sound more down than I'd intended on their own, but... I think they're true!

Maybe, there could have been a brief segment or intro with no drums at all... a small pause in the last segment of the song before the climax. Just an idea.
