We juggle our work with our lives, many times unsuccessfully. We try to be the best we can for our children and significant others, but there’s always birthdays we miss, school plays were not there for, and anniversaries we are late too. We drop what were are doing in the middle of the day and jump out of bed in the dead of night. Were never truly off duty, always at the ready, with no real rest, while we sleep we keep an open ear and our bodies restless for that call. We spend countless hours in a classroom and long days training and re-training. We don’t do it for the pay or the glory, or even a thanks. Knowing full and well the amount of time we spend away from home and our loved ones, and knowing the danger we put ourselves in. These things we do so that others may live.
