oh dear god, you play amtgard?!!! I used to play it in high school with a friend.. I still have a double blade staff.. but... the people at the meetings used to freak me out (some were from a biker gang of all people) not to mention my friend used to enjoy playing with illegal weapons....
Heh, I saw Dae's latest thing an dbeen browsing around. I used to play Amtgard back in the day, had an interesting arrow design I came up with. Basically, instead of just attaching the head of the arrow (including the Franklin Yard Ball) straight to the (headless) shaft, I had a screw-in installed, so you could unscrew the heads. This means I can use my shafts for regular target practice as well as Amtgard.
Basically, there's a threaded hole at the base of the 'head', extra padding put in place to keep it from being a security issue, and the shaft is your standard threaded shaft for screwing on different sorts of heads.
I don't play anymore, life being what it is. Last I played, it was 6th ed, I hear it's gone to 7th now, and that my old staff, double ended strike edges, is now classified as a red weapon. And I was bad enough with it when it was a regular weapon, as a 1st level wizard getting kills on 6th level druids with Magic Bolts... good times.
I remember hearing about a 'Sir Shadow of the blurring blade'... just a coincidence, or perhaps the same person?
