I also remember looking at Garfield comics as a kid but I don't think I ever read them or really understanding what was the point of his exchange with other characters. Looking up references for coloring, I noticed a lot of 80's promotion pictures of Garfield posing as a cool kid. Lame.
Yeah, like, "Garfield wants to sleep all day - I want to sleep all day too! Garfield hates mondays - I hate mondays! Garfield likes lasagna - I like lasagna! Garfield is surrounded by buffoons!" etc. I guess I was a depressed kid and that is why I was so obsessed with it.
