I love it when customers come to my dealers table and show me their worn out stuff, that was their ABSOLUTE FAVORITE THING when it was new. But time is harsh to leather, especially with cycles of wet/dry from rain and perspiration.
Something I also see very commonly, is unlined latigo being worn directly on the skin, with exposed metal that's corroding away.
This collar came to me from a customer who rides a motorcycle,
rahata. I was asked to copy the design, but I made a few improvements to make it more durable. First, the chain of the original was rusting - because it is nickel plated steel. I chose anodized aluminum chain for the new one, because it won't react with skin oil/salt. The lining of the new one is deer hide, my favorite hide for perfect collars and cuffs. The outer is bison, same material I use for my belts - beautiful grain pattern, and a waxy top for water repellant durability. Last, the rivets and rings are quality metals - stainless steel ring, buckle, and loop, and brass with nickel plate for the rivets - this means no green when they get wet. The buyer also asked for a buckle instead of the original snaps design.
Even if this only lasts as long as the original (before the leather cracks from rain/wind/sun exposure), the buyer is guaranteed a replacement at half price whenever he's ready. Something to keep in mind with all the leather I build - never throw it away. Exchange it for a new one at half price no matter what you did to it. If your Lagarto leather fails because I used faulty materials or techniques, the replacement is 100% free.
So, do you have an old favorite that's no longer wearable? I can make a new one for you, better than the original you loved. Just ask!

The red lantern collars are unique serial numbered items, but if you have the front plate, I can honor the same policy with those.
For ANY other item I have created, certainly, I will replace for half if it's your fault (or just worn out), and fully free replacement if it's a problem with materials quality or labor problems (some technique of mine that failed).

Thanks again for getting this done, I've had that collar for many a year and was sad when it became just too damaged to wear any longer. This new one is much improved, and I look forward to many years of riding and cruising with it. The quality is top notch and it's very comfortable to wear.
