I haven't been all too productive lately (hopefully this will change, very soon) so I figured I'd post some of what I've been working on in Watercolor class.
I have a great teacher, and there's only four people in the class. It totally rocks.
The assignment here was to play around with altered washes, such as salt, crayon resist, wet-on-wet, water droplets, saran wrap, etc.
I wanted to do something based on one of my favorite childhood novels, "Dragon of the Lost Sea" by Laurence Yep. It's about a shapeshifting dragon princess who befriends a young boy as she seeks revenge for her magically stolen home-ocean.
This is a scene where they're actually on the stolen ocean-- all the water was taken away, leaving a near-endless salt desert.
Not the prettiest thing I've ever done, but I learned a lot.

Luckily it's not mainstream. It has too many possibilities, though.
They actually are an amazing pair. She's stubborn as heck, and very proud-- she's a "dragon" in philosophy, and Thorn (the boy) is introducing more human concepts of mutual respect and empathy and whatnot. They're really well written and a delight to read.
