This is a picture showing D. Dan making a joke at the wrong time. Though it seems like an epic castle siege, this is actually a simulation in a rather large room at the royal university where, at the time, D. Dan was still in college to be a high ranking knight. In the scenario of the simulation, the professor, Jaques el Noble, and D. Dan are the only two knights in the citadel and must fend off an invading force of a large demonic army in mid siege. The professor tells his student D. Dan this and that he must be the only one to fend off the horde for a specific time as he, the professor, fixes the force field generator downstairs. As the holographic simulation begins to roll in motion, battle and all, the professor asks if there are any questions. D. Dan responds as in the picture.
When D. Dan was a young child, he was a shy kid. When he was a preteen, he didn't have many friends and spent much of his time reading and learning, thus becoming a walking encyclopedia as a result. In his teens, he talked with others more and learned skills, like chess, brain teasers and puzzles, that helped him become a high strategist. Upon entering college to become a high ranking knight, he became a kind of humorist with an unusual unorthodox individual who acted with the intent of causing others to underestimate him (kind of like Spiderman and Deadpool). This scene is one of those moments. The professor, Jaques el Noble, is by no means a fool and simply gives a blank expression. D. Dan knows this. LOL. ^\/^.
