Some photos of my new digitigrade stilts built by the talented WizardGir/girtiger
>>>CLICK TO GO WATCH THEM IN ACTION!<<<
Gir has made several pairs over the past few years trying to prefect his design. These are a custom set specifically for my leg measurements and for my new costume project- which required me to have quite a bit of length to the foot extension, 7" of additional length to be precise, that gives me quite a height boost as you can see for yourself.
My brother reytiger standing next to me is 6ft tall, so a rough estimate is that they make me about 6'6". I'm normally 5'6" so I get to see the world in a whole new perspective! They are a lot of fun but naturally give me quite the workout. I have only had the stilts in my possession for 4 days now but plan to practice nearly every day until I can get a much more natural walk and build up my endurance. As demonstrated in the video, I can do a whole lot with them- including going over different terrain (cement, grass, and sand), up and down inclines, can pseudo-run, pick things up off the ground, and possibly the most important element: the ability to stand still for long periods of time.
Overall I'm very pleased with how they turned out, but they'll need some tweaking, some padding to make them more comfortable, and they do make a bit of squeaky metal noises as expected, but it's nothing that I can't work with. One day I'd love to upgrade to the Digilegs by Area 51 to see how their model compares. By the way if you're interested in a pair of your own, Gir is willing to take commissions on these every so often- however he does prefer to work with friends and experienced costumers, as well as currently not having much free time, but he was a pleasure to work with. If you're looking for the professional stilts, check out my previous review for all the details: http://fursuit.livejournal.com/4823586.html

OH NOES!! Nothing's original anymore! :UUU
Ah yes indeed. Whatever height you need they can be built to accommodate you. These are actually the highest stilts Gir's ever made, and they were purposely designed that way to be specifically for my raptor. However there is no height adjustment option (the professional Digileg version from Area 51 is though!) so if I wanted to make another character with more adequate or standard anthro proportions, I will be requesting another pair of stilts.

This suit will be at NDK this year, yes. However it will also be at RMFC if you're attending that.
If not, I'll be hitting up all the major local cons including Wasabi, Starfest, and Denver Comic Con in 2013. Hopefully there's at least ONE con in the state you'd attend and get the opportunity to see it?

Well me and my bf were thinking about wasabi con (we would have gone this year but he had car troubles and then his car got in a wreck...so yeah he has to use the bus to go places). We might be able to go, just dunno. I live in a different state entirely so I have to fly out there to go to the conventions. My state doesn't have conventions like that and I have to travel out of state just to go to one. I hope next year we can go though. :)
Hey CanineHybrid, I am actually a friend of
Wizardgir and was there during some of the production. These came out amazing, and for someone who has only had them four days, you walk very naturally, not like what i called a retarded dinosaur, arms out and scrunched in. Its nice to see an actual face behind the name, and good luck with your stilts, even with some difficulties along the way.

I have the Area51 Digilegs, and my biggest qualm with them is that you cannot, in fact, stand still in them. You will lose your balance and have to walk. It was a big bummer after such an enormous investment, so be careful :) They have changed a lot from the original videos of Kim Graham running around/standing still.
So, how long does it take to be able to keep your balance on these?
Also,... jesus-titty-fucking-christ, I'd be 7'+ on those, and I'm already in danger of injuring myself should I tip over without the added height, so I figure I'd experience vertigo every time I'd stand up!

It took me about 20 minutes of practice before I got comfortable enough with them, I didn't dare try to go down the driveway and across the street on day one however. It was a lot of tweeking and adjustment to the cable tension before I found the best setting.
haha damn, over 7 feet would be pretty crazy! The costume will actually stand at 7 feet once I've completed the mask, but yeah you tall people would have quite a problem on your hands performing in stilts like these :o

all i keep thinking of is suits for raptors Trex or that creature from thail the movie but they do look rather cool heh not sure if i would get them but would be interesting to get a pair for the hell of it maybe add bungies to it then some sort of covering to mimic muscle movement. not sure if it would work or not doing that
I have to say, for this unique, clever project, $700 at the time sounds like a really good deal.
It sounds like it really works and is rather practical. I think that in it self makes it worth every penny.
Having something like this would probably be the only way anyone could ever convince me to wear one of those furry suite thingies.
That Gir is a wizard indeed!
