A small series of some Irish scenery.
Over 5,000 years old, this place, the oldest continually roofed building in the world, bar none. Built before Stonehenge, or the Pyramids, or Starbucks, it's in Co. Meath, Ireland, and it's called Newgrange.
Went there in 2007 with my mate - the first time visiting since I was ten years old, and it was a great experience.
At sunrise on December 21, light enters the chamber and illuminates the tomb - not bad for a building designed that way in 3,200BC.

Wow, a great pic! I read about it some time ago, but there weren't any pictures. But, aren't Dowth and Knowth older?
I remember the constant quarrel about which country in Europe has the oldest monolithic constructions but now... Göbekli Tepe in Turkey was aprpoximately built 9000 BC, that makes it 11000 years old.

Must check up Göbekli Tepe. That sounds really fascinating too.
Knowth and Dowth could be older and for all I know might even be better and more special to the constructors, but it is Newgrange that has become the focal point for tourism.
BTW, if you are ever going there, do not ask my mate for directions. Pointless endevour. :)

Even thought I heard the guided tours there are horrible, I'm sure I'll visit Newgrange someday when I've got enough money to travel again.

Ireland is so awesome. I wish I could see more of it...and I will. Someday.
It's the only place I have been that I thought "I could live here" aside from Brisbane. Not Koln, not Dusseldorf, not London, definitely not Paris...not the places I have been in the USA like LA and San Francisco, or the tame fringe of the American desert that I saw.
All those places were nice to see...but Ireland felt like it could be a home.
