Yeah she could have but most rats develop tumors at one point or another but still they live a lot longer than their wild counterparts. Also according to this little comparison sheet she would have been a +60 year old granny. - http://www.ratbehavior.org/RatYears.htm

Ive felt it myself, out of the 7 rats(all females) ive had 5 grew tumors, one got very sick and one bit over more than she could chew >.<
However their average age was 2 and a half years+. The eldest made it well over 3.
I love rats. Such great animals.
