Commission: Sulfuric Hotspots
This is a commission for
Sulferdragon featuring Sulfer the fire dragon. He really enjoys fire and lava in the volcanic zone. ^^
It's been 3 days of work drawing that complex character and amusing background/landscape. ;) However, shucks that lava is not so real enough

Well, the picture is quite dark, but it could have been improved in many ways:
Floating, glowing lava!!
I Think, that many parts of the dragon character should have been illuminated by the fire/lava. Look at the wing membranes, the chest, the legs, arms etc.... So many parts are simply too dark where light should have been.

I learnt that if the picture illustrates darkness and gloomy, I had to be careful about shadings and highlights to make a character and a background not too bright as if they are in a sunny day.
Well, the light source is the glowing lava, and most of the dragon parts should have been brighter.
I have changed the picture and resubmit....Thank you for the corrections. :)

The frontside (and all related body parts, which are close to the lava) must be even brighter, still. And the backside must be darker, yepp.
Your lava is looking quite ok - I'm just talking about the dark dragon and his highlights.

Ok, this dragon-skeleton is "bathing" in lava... but it's a good example of how the yellow-orange-reddish colours could be used.

In this picture, I want you to look at the columns and architecture all around, which is being highlighted really well!

Those link images that you've given to me are impressive, so I'll take lava light references from not only those links but also the movie scenes and other pictures.
Thanks, Reptile :). I'll do with these particular highlights and shadings correctly next time. ^^
