Hmmm, there seems to be a problem as of late with stray furry characters barging into people's homes and demanding stuff from them. First it happened to
marymouse, and now it has happened to me!
This past week this cheeky little fox broke into the house claiming he was really me, made his way up to my room and then proceeded to make himself at home; even sitting in my very own chair and demanding I find him some "furri pornz" on the Internet for him! O_o Fearing no one would believe this incredible tale, I quickly snapped a picture (which he was only too happy to pose for) before he ran off with $142.18 from my wallet mumbling something about him needing it to buy bus tickets and a barrel for his kangaroo friend who is waiting for him at Niagara Falls. o_o
So yeah, this is my room and computer area, though all the art creation takes place on the bed to the right with my Tablet PC and/or clipless board-paper. (I'm more creative in bed perhaps? X3 ) As you can probably tell by the time on the clock, the window faces to the East. Dual monitors (the smaller one is a Sharp 3D display, but since I went Dual Core nVidia's stereo 3D drivers quit working, so now it's mainly just a monitor for IM. My computer is the big black box in front. My computers from work are the Mac Mini and the Dell system behind my own. Bonus points if you can figure out the make of the computer under the cover on the table. ^_^
Entertainment system (including the still-broken Tivo >_< ) is in the foreground below the table. Lots of books on the bookshelf there (See if you can find my copy of "Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" in there, even though the binding text is totally pixelated. ;) ) Also feel free to do the whole "Where's Waldo thing with all that stuff. XD )
So this is what I consider "organized clutter", though if you think that isn't cluttered enough click on this http://www.skritcheroo.com/roomwestwall.jpg to see the definition of organized clutter in it's purest form! XD (And since that wall opposite the side my computer is on, I don't see it that often, therefore the clutter doesn't exist! Doesn't exist, I say! :D )
This is my second real world-toon character merging, and I'm pretty happy with the results. I decided to take the photo when the sun was shining through to challenge myself with some harsh lighting conditions, and I think the result is pretty neat.
For more details look in my scraps for some of WIP stuff from this pic, and a shading tutorial posted along side this in my gallery.
Done on Tablet PC with Paint.net and Photoshop.

Yeah, I have to think about the fav thing. On one hand I worry that folks will think I think I'm too important to send out thank-yous for all the faves I get, and stop faving. OTOH, I feel like I'm spamming everyone's shout list sometimes since I send out so many of those thank-yous for faves. ^_^;;
I've thought about only doing commissions for just this type of thing - putting a cartoon character into photos sent to me commissioners.
But I'd be concerned about getting photos that are of poor quality and having to play a game of tag requesting better photos back and forth.
I'd be curious though as to the percentage of clean requests vs. porn requests. XD

Thanks!! Yeah I also had the older one when I was a kid that was motorized (this is a hand-crank) and had the working distributor and lighted spark plugs. But, I was 9 when I tried to put that together and it was a bit complicated for me at the time, so it never really worked right and ended up falling apart. :P
I also had a 4 cyclinder turbocharged engine, that one I put together when I was a little older, was also motorized and lighted, so it actually worked. But my little brother dropped an iron on it so that was the end of that.
Finally I also had a Wankel rotary engine. I -think- that one went together OK but I'm not sure anymore and in fact I don't even know what became of it after we moved from Florida! o_o

Heh heh heh. He is so cute, and he looks quite comfortable in that big leather chair. Honestly, I can't say I blame him for wanting to take over your room. It looks cool! By the way, I'm going to call this little guy Tommy, if that's okay with you. Don't ask me why but Tom sounds like a suitable name for him.
And might I add that the second paragraph is hilarious. My cousin and me are laughing our asses off as we're reading. Don't take this the wrong way and think I'm a freak or anything, but I was just thinking that he'd look cute corpulent. I was wondering if you could do a weight gain pic of him. If you don't want to go through with it, I'll understand. (BTW, corpulent means "very fat" in case you're wondering. Also, I was wondering if I could use ol' Tommy boy here (no, I'm not making a reference to Tommy Boy) in a story I'm doing.)
At the risk of being called out on for necrobumping (:P) :
This is really well done. :3
I think where a good, convincing real-world/cartoon picture like this starts is with a good photo, which this definitely is. If it's taken at a poor angle, or with a poor-quality camera, then you have to adapt the cartoon portion of the image to that poor quality (in one way or another), which is even harder to pull off than when you have a nice, clean photo to work from (I'm sure; never done this kind of thing before, so I wouldn't know :P).

That is true about adapting the image. In fact, I did have to apply a noise filter in Photoshop to my character's image to try an match the sensor noise on the camera. Fortunately, it wasn't too bad since I was able to shoot at a low ISO thanks to all the sunlight that happened to be shining into the room at the time! =)
Thanks for the thoughtful comment! And it's never too late to comment, considering I seem to only do a pic once or twice a year now thanks to my hectic work schedule. X3
