The anime is vastly different than the manga. The show does get super dramatic and awesome but at the same time you have to deal with a lot of dumb stuff too like the really bad English used to teach Japanese kids English. Also, the show made me think that Japan thinks New York City is nothing but hamburger stands.

Oh no no no! By all means catch the anime. It's hilarious. It starts off kinda dumbed down but picks up speed about halfway. The ending can be narn or heartwarming, depending on your views. I do have the manga collection too, and it is, as said, different.
