I blame obsessive playing of Monster Hunter on my PS2 for this picture. >.>
This is my character Avereth, only I changed him into a Hyena. He is wearing 3/3 Monoblos Armor (helm, chest piece, gauntlets), 2/5 Rathalos Armor (belt, leggings), and wielding Siegmund (the big ass sword). Changes to the armor are removing the metal face guard on the helm for his muzzle and holes in the top for his ears and mane, as well as reworking the leggings for his legs. Now for a little storyline...
Avereth is a renowned monster hunter, known for his slayings of great wyverns far and wide. Such is obvious from the armor covering him and the great sword he wields, made from parts of his slain foes. There's nothing that's ever been too tough for him to overcome.
As he is walking through the forest, he pauses at a stream as the earth seems to tremble. He hears something breaking through the trees behind him and turns to see a dragon. It's bigger than any of the wyvern's he's ever seen in his life. The great beast's head rises up to block the sun as debris falls from it and birds fly away. Should he flee, or try to take it? The choice is made for him as a gleaming eye fixes upon him and the dragon lets out an ear splitting roar. He draws Siegmund and begins planning his attack as the looming form advances...

Well I've been a 'Yena for a while now actually. ^^
I mean my char in-game is Avereth and I wanted him to be more interesting than just another human.
Just wait till I decide to do it again with him in a full Gravios set! Think of a wyvern that looks like its hide is made of stone! >8D

You know i'm considering having you in the next one too wearing the gunner version of the Gravios set and wielding a katana, cause you're awesome like that. ^^
That means I'll have to spend a few hours killing a few of them for the materials to make a set for reference though. >.>''

Monoblos, Diablos, Gravios, Khezu, I took them all. ^^
I recently played again and finally unlocked the final offline quest, called Troublesome Pair, where you have to beat a Rathalos and Rathian in the same mission. That's going to be fun!

Hmm I have in my bags from memory:
Book of combos 1-3
Herb x10
Blue Mushroom x 10
Honey x 10
Potion x 10
Mega Potion x 10
Flash Bomb x 5
Bomb material x 10
flashbug x 10
Pitfall trap x1
Net x 2
trap tool x 2
Ancient Potion x 1
Herbal medicine x 10
paintball x 50ish
Whetstone x 20
Power Juice x 5
Well-done steak x10
That might have been everything, I at least *feel* well prepared! Well placed traps and bombs added to my Siegmund are going to seriously mess them up, though I'm not at my prime anymore like when I could take a Gravios using only 3 herbs.

If possible, I'd recomend Mega juice over power juice and well-done steak, but it shouldn't make much much of a difference really. Other than that, you seem like you have everyting you need. I think the ancient potion boosts your health to 150 instead of the usual 100, and it lasts until you fall unconscious, so use it sooner, rather than later to get the benefit of more health for the rest of the fight.
Anyway, if you got this far with offline gear, then you should know how to dodge well enough and stuff. Just watch out for damage building up from minor things that don't cause you to stagger, usualy they aren't a problem, but against +'s they're a nightmare.
It's too bad the online servers are gone now, it would have been good to hunt together!
Good luck!

Hmm...Maybe I never discovered how to make mega juice... Something that lasts longer then power juice would be sweet! The blastedegg runs when it wore off drove me insane!
I wonder if I should invest in a fuller rath set. I am screwed into not being able to make the helm, but I need fire resists...unless the anti-wind bonus on one set is preferable.

Mega juice is made by combining power extract with well-done steak I think... but I'm not completely sure. It lasts alot longer than power juice does, and is definetly worth it.
I've never gotten around to testing different armor against them. I'd go for anti-wind myself though, since you can make up for lower defense by dodging. Also, Rath armor comes with a huge dragon weakness, I'm not sure if they have dragon-element in there attacks or not though.

Power extract comes from Gypceros. Hard mode? That's the spirit of a true Monster Hunter fan!
The kirin is pure evil! It prances around for a while then suddenly... BANG! Struck by lightning! Collapsed and paralysed... I was wearing armor weak to lightning at the time too... the pain...

It's not about beating the shit out of the wyvern, it's about knowing a bad swing and the wyvern might beat the shit out of you. I will never cease to be amused with the many ways I can be sent flying through the air and tumbling, and the ways I can do the same to my quarry. Besides, I don't wanna go slap an overgrown chicken silly in the hope it might drop the item. I only killed it once, and made a helm out of it. I made do with craaaap armor for most of the game, and killed most everything with the exception of Gravios using the Katana before the electric upgrade. ^^
I hear the Kirin is very easy to send flying with a hammer. I want to hit it with my Diablos Maul that I'll never bother upgrading the final time due to the materials needed.

I used the standard Golem Blade and Cephalos armor for a long time. I eventually upgraded to the Ancient Blade though, and once I had that, I got myself Rathalos armor. I have alot of armor and weapons now, things I made just for the heck of it.
Should've seen how my friend got sent flying, he was hit by a fireball while in mid air after leaping off a cliff. Sending things flying is always fun, though my favourite thing to do is slice air-borne 'prey into two
The kirin is easy to knok around, but it's suprisingly strong. Especially because it's attacks hit all around it and cause paralysis. My entire group got paralysed at one point... we had a nice conversation while we were waiting to get up too.

Troublesome Pair is beginning to annoy me. >:(
Rathian's very sudden, very impossible to dodge poison tackle decimates most of my hp in 1 hit and poisons. If I didn't have the benefit of an ancient potion, it would even kill me instantly! I try to have a pitfall trap ready for when she gets cranky like that, but she tends to find her way into it long before I've got her that angry. :(
I suppose I'll just have to be less stingy on the flashbombs and keep her blinded literally all the time. Rathalos' only similar move is when he explodes the ground in order to get into the air fast, but that's a bit more avoidable. He's troublesome in the air but quite easy to avoid, the only real issue is making him stay down long enough to get some hits in.

Yeah it'll do that...
Try keeping your distance a bit more, all of the attacks are easy to dodge if you do that. Focus on attacking the head at every chance (once you've cut off the tail that is). You shouldn't need to get too close to the body if you're using a Greatsword (What sword are you using btw?)
I mainly use flash bombs to keep them grounded, and to re-sharpen when they go into frenzy. But since you have alot of combining materials for them, you shouldn't need to hold back too much.
You should take out the 'los first, using flash bombs whenever it tries to fly off. It's the only way you'll have enough time to get things done. Go for the 'ian second, and use what ever flash bombs you have left.
