Well, I've mainly kept on-road since my injury last summer/fall-ish and these shots pretty much sum up my rides around the area. Upper left starts things out: This shot was taken from atop Alabama Hill's pedestrian overpass on a former railroad route. The next shot is from just a week or so ago when I got the chance to go snowboarding. I hadn't been up in a few years and never to Mt. Baker. I really should have started out slow, but oooooh no, I only got in one run due to my fore-mentioned injuries. Things hurt in places they shouldn't!!! Middle shot is was taken down on Bellingham Bay looking up towards Canada and their beautiful rugged mountains (Canadian's help me out here, I don't know the name of that range?). The background is from Mt. Baker Ski Area. Lower left is of the old paper mill on the waterfront which is gradually being torn down. And last but not least is an old steam-engine thats perpetually parked over by lake Whatcom.

Its a beautiful place to live with many great recreational opportunities! Hiking, Biking, Kayaking/Canoeing Horseback riding, Ski and Snowboarding, Snowmobiling fishing, swimming, windsurfing, Kiteboarding (I just upgraded my kite and will be doing that too in the summer)
The upper left, lower left, center foreground, and lower right are all within relatively easy biking distance, the other one's (snow shots) are also at riding distance, but a little further than I usually travel and would literally take me from dawn to dusk for travel time round trip. One way would be hard, but coming down from that would be a snap! (have to get new brakes first though) thats one steep hill (mountain)
It could be considered such, I guess, I live about half an hour south of the Canadian Border, and there are tourist destinations all over the place, from the whale watch tours on the harbor, to the nearby ski resort at the mountains, or our local mountain bike hills, or historic downtown Fairhaven. Then there are the colleges WWU, Fairhaven College, Bellingham Tech, Whatcom Community, ponders I know there's more than that, can't place it though.
